More Than Just Building: Structure NYC Helps Create a Sanctuary of Learning

September 21, 2023

We’re elated to spotlight another heartwarming initiative we were a part of—contributing to the construction of the Children’s Library at Concourse House in the Bronx. This incredible facility serves as a transitional home for women and young children facing homelessness, offering not just shelter but a range of social services aimed at successful resettlement. The new library serves as a cornerstone in enriching the educational resources available to the children at Concourse House. The goal was to create more than just a space for books; it’s a sanctuary where children can explore their imaginations, participate in organized readings, and attend special storytime events.

Structure Ventures was privileged to work as the general contractor on this transformative project. Together with MKCA, who led the design and architecture, we aimed to revitalize an underused mezzanine area into an inviting, playful, and visually stimulating space. The revamped library breaks away from the building’s more institutional areas, featuring bright colors, playful curves, and soft lighting. This special initiative was made possible through in-kind contributions and an online fundraiser, emphasizing community collaboration at its best.

Our team couldn’t be more thrilled to play a role in fostering the love of reading and learning for children who are in transitional phases of their lives. We’re grateful for this opportunity to give back to the community and help provide a lasting resource for Concourse House.
